The Tubes - Live in Concert
The Tubes rose rapidly to the top of the charts with the well-known hit “She’s A Beauty” at the end of the 70s. Their trademark – extravagant stage shows!
But let’s start from the top: The Tubes was founded by a group of friends who went to school together in Phoenix, Arizona. At that time the groups “The Beans and The Red” and “The Red, White and Blues” already existed. Moving to Los Angeles merged the two bands into one – The Tubes.
Bill Spooner wrote the songs and staged the extraordinary stage shows together with Michael Cotton and Prairie Prince. One of the main founders of The Tubes is Fee Waybill who is also doing the vocals of the group. He created a stage character for each song and rocked the stage in countless costumes. For the performance of “Smoke” they used dancing cigarettes and the group wore clown costumes.
The Tubes produced their first album in 1975 with Al Kooper for A&M Records. The song “White Punks on Dope” turned out to be the best-known song in the German-speaking area. Especially the cover version by Nina Hagen in 1987 helped the song gain renewed attention.
The album “Remote Control” with included hits like “Young & Rich”, “Don’t Touch Me There”, “Now” and “What Do You Want from Life” quickly became popular. The elaborate and costly stage shows were hard to manage and the group experienced financial difficulties. After switching to Capitol Records, The Tubes tried being a rock band instead of a show band. The long-haired, wild band image was gone and they performed as neatly dressed businessmen.
With the new label and David Foster as their producer, the group created the most successful, radio-friendly album at that time. The power ballad “Don’t Want to Wait Anymore” was the number 1 hit in over 17 countries. “David had just produced Boogie Wonderland by Earth, Wind & Fire and we loved that album,” Fee says about the making.
The Tubes are now touring in Germany with their 6th and best-selling album “Outside Inside” after all these years. Don’t miss the live performances of classics like “Mondo Bondage”, “What Do You Want From Life”, “Out Of Business” and “Talk To Ya Later”!
Longtime member Fee Waybill is looking forward to seeing all of you and truly believes The Tubes is a much better band than they have ever been before!
